So it took me a while to realise this, but in Napoleon your troops just sort of fire as fast as they can, whereas in Empire they tend to fire in volleys. Now they definitely fire faster overall in Napoleon, but not having volley fire also makes fire by rank impossible. Wouldn't fire by rank still be a superior way of doing it in general?
